Sports data specialists Genius Sports has announced a deal to provide integrity services to a new US league that is set to launch in February.
The XFL is a new American football competition, that is being backed by the founder and chairman of World Wrestling Entertainment, Vince McMahon.
Under the terms of the deal, Genius Sports will handle the monitoring of all betting markets associated with the league, both pre-game and in-play. It is also set to offer analysis of any significant price moves, providing alerts to the XFL when appropriate.
And to provide a starting point for integrity in the new league, Genius is set to hold workshops in Houston, Texas, to inform players, officials and coaches about the danger of betting corruption and other issues around sports integrity. Genius will also be working with the XFL to help predict betting levels and to design a reporting and investigation process for suspected integrity issues.
Speaking about the arrangement with Genius, the President of the XFL, Jeffrey Pollack, said that they wanted strong integrity around betting to be part of their model from the start:
“Sports betting is growing rapidly in the US and we are gearing up to be a good citizen and thoughtful participant in the marketplace. “Our alliance with Genius Sports is an important first step and foundational element.”
According to Genius, they have already started work on their integrity systems alongside the XFL and they expect arrangements to be ready for the start of the XFL, which launches February 8.
The deal with the XFL extends Genius Sports’ coverage in the sector. They already partner with over 100 sports competitions, including the PGA golf Tour, the Premier League in England and the NBA. And last November, they added to their global portfolio by signing up a deal to provide sports integrity monitoring services for the football organisations of Colombia.
